Finland

The Republic of Finland is one of the world's northernmost countries bordering Sweden and Norway to the north and Russia to the east. Archaeological evidence indicates that Finland was settled during the Stone Age around 8500 BCE.
From the late 12th century until 1809, Finland was part of Sweden. Finland is a country of thousands of lakes and islands, with a climate, particularly in Lapland, of long, cold winters, while the summers are relatively warm but short.

Helsiniki, the capital is the country’s largest city and located in Uusimaa, in southern Finland, on the Gulf of Finland, Helsinki is the most populated urban area in Finland with a rich and diverse architectural legacy. Among the city’s monumental landmarks are Olavinlinna, St. Olaf’s Castle, a 15th century, three tower medieval castle, built to ensure control of the Savo region for the Swedish Crown, the Sibelius Monument, a sculpture dedicated to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957,) located at the Sibelius Park and the Uspenski Cathedral, the largest orthodox church in Western Europe, which reflects the city’s Russian influence.
