Denmark

Denmark is part of Scandinavia. Copenhagen, the capital, was founded as a fishing village in the 10th century and by the 17th century flourished as an important European regional center. The city’s architectural heritage includes palaces, fortifications and magnificent structural expressions of its rich history.
The Christiansborg Palace, located on the islet of Slotsholmen, in central Copenhagen, is the seat of the Danish Parliament  (Folketinget) although areas of the palace are still used by the Royal Family for official events. The palace, first built in 1167, represents three eras of Danish architecture.

Denmark’s famous Little Mermaid statue, was made by Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen.
