Denmark

Denmark is part of Scandinavia. 
Copenhagen, the capital, was founded as a fishing village in the 10th century and by the 17th century had developed into an important European regional center. The city’s architectural heritage includes palaces, fortifications and magnificent structural expressions of prestige.
Today, Copenhagen is the most populated city of Denmark and represents the country’s cultural, economic and governmental hub. The city is distinguished by parks, waterfronts and promenades against a background of true architectural gems.
The Christiansborg Palace, located on the islet of Slotsholmen, in central Copenhagen, is the seat of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget), Supreme Court and Ministry of State. Parts of the palace are still used by the Royal Family for various functions and events. The palace represents three eras of Danish architecture since first built in 1167.

Denmark’s famous Little Mermaid statue, made by Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen, was completed in 1913. The statue was commissioned by Carl Jacobsen of Carlsberg as a gift to Copenhagen. The Hans Christian Andersen Museum is a tribute to the great, Danish fairy tale writer.

Denmark is frequently ranked as one of the happiest countries in cross national studies.
